Fun
- Roslyn and I took our annual trip to NYC. This time for our friends and her to run the Brooklyn Half Marathon. We also went to New Haven for our friend’s MBA graduation at Yale.
- Radio Bakery is top tier. Probably the best focaccia and pastries I’ve ever had.
- I love seeing my friend Austin when I’m in NYC I think this is the 3rd time I’ve seen him this year already!
- Roslyn, our friends Michelle, Akshay, and I travelled to Arizona to backpack at the Havasupai reservation.
- We flew into Las Vegas and immediately got Tacos El Gordo.
- 10 miles 3000 ft descent the first day into the canyon.
- We weren’t allowed to take photos of the mules or the native residents but rest assured there were A LOT of mules.
- The falls were really pretty but the trails were sketchy at times. There is one section of a popular trail where you need to go through a cave and then climb down the side of a wall while water is spraying you from the waterfall. Probably the most risky and technical hike I’ve done in recent memory.
- It was so hot (90+) everyday so we pivoted our original plan of hiking at 3am on the last day and instead hiked through the night from 8pm to 1am.
- An 18 year old native resident recommended it to us but we later found out that it wasn’t technically allowed or recommended by the tribe
- I crashed out towards the last 2 miles where we had to ascend 1000ft to the parking lot. Thankfully there wasn’t a time rush so I took my time. We think I just didn’t eat enough.
- We made a tiktok during this trip because Michelle really wanted to make it. I’ll link it below.
- Roslyn and I attended her sisters’ graduations in LA in June. They were on the same day. UCSB at 9am then UCLA at 5pm. It was very tiring but I’m glad we could be there for them to celebrate!
Fitness
- Half marathon on May 4th! I started off strong but started to crash out towards mile 11. I was short of my goal pace by about 5 minutes but overall I think I did well given only 8 weeks of training.
- I took a break from running after the half marathon but I started back up recently. I decided to defer the full marathon to next year while I build up my base for the rest of the year.
- I’m hoping to play more tennis and pickleball this Summer!
Career
- Work as been pretty stressful and busy. I think it’s just the status quo actually. Regardless I’m learning a lot and accomplishing a lot.
- The project I’ve been working on since December finally launched and it’s been a big celebrated success for the company. We’re in the process of ordering some nice swag. Rumor is that we’re getting lulu lemon jacket or something similar.
- Another project I worked on for a few weeks launched and was announced at DAIS, our huge company conference every year. I worked on Databricks Free Edition and the project involved people from across the company. It’s a huge success and it has a lot of visibility.
Life
- Roslyn and I started ring shopping. She eliminated a lot of options but we’ve still got a lot of work to figure out what kind of ring she does want. Engagement rings are way less expensive than I thought.
- We’ve received a lot of invites to weddings so the next year or so will be filled with a lot of weddings and travel! I’m going to invest in a nice suit for all of these.
